  • ODSP does allow an individual to earn up to $1,000 without it affecting the monthly benefit, and so is 25% of any net earnings after the first $1,000
  • ODSP gives you an extra $100 Work-Related Benefit

Vision Visual acuity in both eyes is 20/200 (6/60) or less on the Snellen Chart or your field of vision is 20 degrees or less.

Speaking You must rely upon other means of communication such as sign language or a symbol board You must repeat words or sentence several times and as a result it takes you longer than an average person to make yourself understood.

 Hearing You must rely completely on lip reading or sign language, despite using a hearing aid, in order to understand a spoken conversation. People must raise their voice or repeat words or sentences several times so you require extra time to understand what people are saying.

Walking You must rely upon a wheelchair or scooter outside of the home. You are able to walk 100 metres (one city block) but only by taking a significant amount of time, stopping due to shortness of breath or pain, all or substantially all the time. You experience several episodes of fatigue, ataxia, lack of coordination and problems with balance. These episodes cause you to be incapacitated for several days at a time, making you unable to walk more than a few steps. Between episodes, you continue to experience the symptoms but to a lesser degree. These symptoms put you at significant risk of injury due to loss of balance, lack of coordination, or falling and require you an inordinate amount of time to walk, substantially all the time. Resetting Guarantees
Empire Life Guaranteed Investment Funds offer automatic annual death benefit guarantee resets until
age 80 and the option for you to reset the maturity benefit guarantee up to twice per calendar year.3 If the
market value of your contract is higher than your net deposits on the reset dates, the guaranteed amounts
will be reset based on the higher value.
Ability to Bypass Probate
As an insurance policy, the death benefit of Empire Life Guaranteed Investment Funds is paid directly to
the named beneficiary rather than to the estate. This means the value of your guaranteed investment fund
may bypass probate, a costly and lengthy process, allowing your named beneficiary to receive the proceeds
faster and privately.
