‘For a better tomorrow’: York Region car show at Bloomington GO Station cuts costs for multiple sclerosis patients

One of York Region’s most acclaimed car shows will return, “bigger and badder” on Saturday, Aug. 31, to display hundreds of amazing four-wheeled vehicles.

But it’s two-wheeled vehicles — new powered wheelchairs for their members — that the host group at MS Road to a Cure charity car show is after.

“Unfortunately for those living with MS, their symptoms progress and so do their expenses. It is crucial that we alleviate the financial shortfalls that many face living with MS,” says My MS Family, a group of around 400 multiple sclerosis patients dedicated to supporting and advocating for each other, in a letter.

Since there are shortfalls for patients in purchasing accessible equipment, the non-profit has set a $25,000 fundraising goal, enough for three wheelchairs, for the event at Bloomington GO Station.

“Help us make a difference,” the volunteer group added on its car show website.

“There is no cure for MS, but with your support, we can help them fight for a better tomorrow.”

A major annual fundraiser for the volunteer group, the show is indoors at the station, near Highway 404 and Bloomington Road in Richmond Hill, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The group says the event features tuners, classics, custom-built and modified cars and exotics. Federal, provincial and local dignitaries from Markham, Vaughan and Richmond Hill are expected to attend.

The Automotive Industry Show Awards (A.I.S.A.) recognized last year’s MS Road to a Cure, the second such event, as Charitable Show of the Year in 2023.
