With a rich history in Veterans care dating back to 1948, Sunnybrook has grown into one of the world’s best hospitals, consistently earning the second-highest ranking in Canada from Newsweek’s annual World’s Best Hospitals report.
We attribute this growth to Team Sunnybrook’s steadfast commitment to our vision to invent the future of heath, and our mission to be there when it matters most for the 1.3 million patients we serve each year.
Established across three campuses, Sunnybrook is home to 10 diverse care programs and several of Canada’s largest care facilities, such as the country’s first and largest trauma centre, the first brain sciences centre of its kind, one of the largest and most advanced cancer programs, the largest centre for total knee and hip replacements and Ontario’s only burn rehabilitation program. We care for the highest volume of life-threatening emergencies in Ontario, including high-risk pregnancies and premature babies.
Fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook is one of Canada’s top research hospitals. At Sunnybrook Research Institute, we have 363 scientists and clinician-scientists and 950 research personnel and trainees conducting more than $100 million of breakthrough research each year.
Donor support drives these efforts, making possible Canadian and world firsts in focused ultrasound for brain disorders and cancer, COVID-19 research, minimally invasive cardiac and vascular procedures, high-risk pregnancy and micro-preemie care, and the rapidly growing field of precision diagnostics and therapeutics.

Commitment to Dismantling Racism
Sunnybrook is committed through action to being an anti-racist workplace. One where our community of staff, donors, volunteers and partners, specifically those who identify as Indigenous and Black, are respected and their differences celebrated. When we work to address racism against those most marginalized, everyone benefits. We will build a workforce, leadership team and organizational governance representative of the racially diverse communities we serve.
The Foundation stands united in this commitment with the Hospital.
