York Region Rehabilitation & Support Centre
The York Region Rehabilitation and Support Centre proposal states that a community-based facility will eliminate the cost and inconvenience of the current travel times to service providers in other areas and the lengthy wait times between appointments. These two primary obstacles to treatment contribute to the risk of increased debilitation and the added complexity of stress and depression, all of which can lead to further treatment, the possibility of hospitalization and a greater cost to the health care system.
In addition, the proposal emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach to rehabilitation and treatment, addressing the physical, mental, emotional and financial needs of the participants. It describes the formation of individualized treatment plans for all participants, to be determined by their specific needs and their treatment goals. A variety of approaches would be an integral part of the treatment process, including physical rehabilitation, virtual programs, individualized counselling, seminars, group meetings, meditation, financial planning and special events.
